Dress up a little!

Do you know that dressing up can boost confidence, uplift one’s mood, affect creativity and your attention span!? There’s a term that was coined to study this – ‘enclothed cognition’. There was research done to analyze the influence of clothes on human psychology and behavior. We’re all a little tired of not having a reason to dress up and even seeing our kids in PJs all day. Sure it’s comfortable and easy, but to me, how you dress, sets the mood for the day. Plus, it’s fun and motivates me to be more productive!

I think most young moms would agree that kids, especially little girls, will love a reason to dress up. It’s a matter of creating one when the opportunity to do so is so restricted these days. So we came up with a few reasons or occasions for doing just that in these COVID times. Here are a few ideas to create that much needed excitement in the little ones’ lives and add an elegant touch to their look.

1. A Color Themed Day

Pick a day of the week that can be your ‘color day’ every week. Sort of like Taco Tuesdays, you could do Flashy Fridays! Let your princess pick a color of her choice, sure the first one can be pink, but let it be a different one every week. And then each family member picks out an outfit in that color to dress up in every Friday! No PJs allowed! Encourage your little one to pick a dress that she would only wear when she goes out! There’s a reason for her to wear it at home now. And I’m sure she’ll look forward to this day every week.

2. A Formal Dinner at home

Just because you can’t go out for dinner doesn’t mean you can’t have a make-believe restaurant at home. That video of the parents pretending to run a restaurant for their kids that went viral was the cutest one ever! We can all take a little inspiration from it and create that at home with the addition of dressing up for it. Why, you can also dress up for Taco Tuesdays! Let’s not miss out on the opportunity!

3. A Socially Distanced play-date

As long as we are wearing masks and maintaining our distance, one could set up a playdate for the little ones with their friends in the park or the beach. It is so important for the kids to socialize and as long as we do it in a socially responsible way when it’s safe, we owe it to them. They of course need to dress for it! Have them dress up in clothing that doesn’t restrict their movement, like above the knee dresses, skirts, skorts, jumpsuits! This is a very valid reason for them to air their clothes that have been sitting pretty in their closets this year.

COVID has dampened our ability to freely go out and intermingle but let it not dampen our spirit! So let’s do the best we can, let’s put on our fancy pants and encourage the kids to do the same!
